One spring day in Central Park
Sometimes I write without purpose, only observations that spill and engage in the scrapbook of my mind. Sometimes I come across these words are like a warm sweater on a cold day.
The grass is at its peak in the Central Park – only to have drunk three days of spring rains. As a new haircut, the dance of the leaves in the wind, flashes of sun, like the Glitter, are sprinkled throughout the target = "_blank"> Great Lawn.
Too warm in the winter parka, I walk among athletes, tourists, children deprived of school in Phys ed. Children are one step ahead of the nurses – one step behind the mummies in the Blackberry.
I behind a little Indian boy and his extended family of four. He is also overdressed. The outer layer is a red quilted vest on top of a sweater to hide at least three layers. The trainee pursues her grandmother with a handkerchief, grandfather balls with a digital camera. I witness the older generation trying to catch up – with young people with technology. They go around trying to be felled by unpredictability.
My thighs are starting to heat up when walking, cooking under the blanket jean tight in the afternoon sun. I found a seat on the grass of invitation and download my lime green spiral notebook from Staples. I scribble a little, but get distracted easily.
A father in a leather jacket, pink button down, 1980 Ray Bans a Tom Cruise's, and moccasins brings her three-year-old red son headed for a day at the park. Within seconds the child's shoes are flying through the air. The divorced father (no ring and wandering eyes) breaks the glove receiver. So cliché. The child wears a Manning jersey. He throws the baseball and lands three feet from me. I smile and look away in my notebook.
An old Hasidic Jew walks in the park's perimeter. It is even more than I overdressed – black wool hat and coat. My group finished in the black coat.
The couples abound in several flavors. The young, seemingly in love plop your ass down and its appendages are intertwined in a game of Twister for two. Another couple comes in costume bath and bring a blanket, a refrigerator and cellular phones equipped for two people. He stands up, the low-rise jeans hanging below the waist. (Is it still fashionable or late 90's back?) He'll talk on the phone. Stretching his arms in salute as the sun – his boxers rode to about 4 "above the jeans. He looks around. This is always looking around. The girl, meanwhile, takes this opportunity to rotate on its stomach – move your ass in the air and check your phone all the same. All show him – "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush." Either that, or – "I have options."
New York is all about options. You have options – A plethora of options. For everything. Bars, restaurants, entertainment, men, women, work, apartments.
It is not long until the father is the red headed boy on the ground – leaning on his elbow, and the displacement through his Blackberry. No one is ever more here. Everyone is in a game of chess – always two steps ahead – Trying to predict the future. Predicting actions of their opponents. Make all the right moves – win the game. I never really taught the art of losing.
Other couples makes its home in my quadrant. Middle old and rich – they find their happiness in the top of a cashmere throw and drinking red wine. They wear the uniform: khaki pants and matching white poles. Getting buzzed under the spring sun – your eyes out a little sad that no monetary settlement. As Kleenex for the soul – take a swig of the wine back and rest on your elbows sun their faces.
Crowds of school children in baseball, dressed in the field stampede in shades of red, gold, blue and white, all with pride representing their educational purple overpriced. The kids these days wear their primary school marks on his clothing – an annotation walk to go with the controls parent enrollment of more than $ 35K.
Strollers parade around the park, like a box of 64 Crayola Crayons. Great, umbrellas, funky old space, excessive pricing. A flavor for every taste.
The wind blows and the trees, "snow" falls, the remains of dried flower petals. Create a rider on the white carpet of mulch.
Within half an hour, the child and the father are rolling around on the weapons away from me. The clouds move faster than the wind picks up. I'm happy for my extra layers.
A teenager in the skates slows and turns to make sure it is not skating too fast for the older man that follows. He turns as if being viewed, if only for their audience first, and almost lost his balance. It fits and moves ahead with a further need to demonstrate his skills. A group of hardcore skaters follow, a lighthouse on wheels.
An overweight woman, dressed inappropriately spandex to make their home within 10 meters of me. It provides in shmat fluorescent orange and climb the tight black shirt to just below her breasts. He proceeded to climb up the pants by what could only meet to be "sun-calf." As spins on his back, Jiggly belly rubs a little. White meat appears as bright in the green grass. When you finally walk, could still see it as an X on a treasure map. The Lady Jelly Belly on the Great Lawn.
