Amateur Wine Connoisseur – How to store wine

Depending on whether you are a wine drinker or wine collector will determine how much space is needed to store their wine and how. There are several rules that may apply to wine storage.

Rule # 1: No good store wine or champagne the refrigerator for more than a week. The taste of the wine go flat. The vibrations of engine cycles if the refrigerator, dishwasher or washer / dryer decrease the taste of wine. In addition, the temperature of refrigerators 35 degrees F is too low for the storage of wine. The best temperature to store wines is between 53 and 59 degrees F. Storage outside that range takes its flavor.

Rule # 2: The tank temperature should be somewhat constant. Wine not fair well with temperature fluctuations.

Rule # 3: The wine should be stored in a damp area between 70% and 95% humidity. In 70% humidity can dry out the cork, leaving less hermetic seal. Above 95% moisture can cause mold which can result in damage to the label.

Rule # 4: The wine should be stored in a place with no natural light sun. Ultraviolet rays will cause the wine to deteriorate.

Rule # 5: The wine must be stored away from odor producing chemicals. Strong odors paint, paint thinner, gasoline, etc. can penetrate into the wine to change the flavor.

A few wine collectors may be lucky enough to live in a home that has a underground cellar that meets the above criteria. However, most do not. A well insulated room can be built for storage including climate control unit, which moistens and refreshes the air. Also available hygrometers to measure humidity. Some also give a digital readout of temperature. The hygrometer readings should be checked daily to ensure proper humidity and temperature.

This room would be so simple racking systems or elaborate as the collector wanted. Racking systems can be wood, plastic or metal. Some collectors store their wines in wooden boxes which entered the case offers a dark environment needed to store and there is little change in temperature due to the amount of bottles stored in a small area.

Do not use cardboard boxes to store wine. The chemicals in the cardboard can go into the bottle. Over time the high humidity in the room the deterioration of the box.

For the people apartments, a wine cellar that looks like a piece of furniture may be needed. They come in a variety of sizes, holding 24 bottles of 2,800 bottles. One of the places to find in the catalogs of the caves is wine accessories.
